I personally don’t understand all the hype with the royal wedding stuff, but then again, I’ve never been one to enjoy large events, movie stars or fame.  Listening to the radio about all of the consumerism around the royal wedding didn’t surprise me, I just simply don’t get it.  I might as well have been listening to them talk about astrophysics or rocket science.  So I did not get my “William & Katherine” pez dispensers or a plastic tiara to celebrate a wedding of people I don’t know and will never meet.

I got the privilege of attending two weddings right after the royal wedding.  I didn’t know these people either, although I’ve seen them before.  These weddings were during a church service in Mexico.  There were many really wonderful things about these weddings, but the thing that stood out the most is the simplicity of them.  Mama Lupita, who hands-down has to be the most amazing human being I’ve ever met, made one of the wedding dresses.  She’s also the incredible woman that started Casa Hogar Elim and she’s also the person marrying these two couples.

When I asked what time the weddings would be, they said around 1:30pm.  That basically means “sometime in the afternoon” to people for the US.  I love this!  No stress about guest lists, time constraints and all the consumeristic stuff associated with weddings.  Simple and carefree.  It was a great celebration and they had a huge meal afterwards, prepared by some of the the teenage girls, and yes, also Mama Lupita.  If I ever get married again (no comments needed here… move on and finish reading), I’m doing it in Mexico.  Not at some fancy resort, in this small and loving church.  This beats some fancy royal wedding any day of the week.
