gma gpa double exposureYes, I’m digging through the archives on this one.  I wrote this letter to my grandma as an assignment for a part-time blogging gig a while back.  The assignment was to chose a technological photography item and write a letter to your grandma about how to use it.  I chose the Double Exposure Digi Cam.  This is too good and took too much time just to be in a dark corner of an unorganized archive folder.  Digitally speaking, of course.

I’ll include the graphic files of the letter, but I’ll also add the text.  It’s a little easier to read.  Make sure you look at the graphic files though, or you’ll miss the repurposed B-I-N-G-O pad idea!

Dear grandma,

How are you doing?  I sure do miss you.  I was surfing (not in the ocean, on the internet) yesterday and found the perfect gift for you!  A double exposure digi-cam!  Remember how your old film camera would stick at the end of the roll of film, creating two exposures on one piece of film?  Well that’s now the trendy way to shoot photos!  It’s cool!  This little camera is smaller than your dentures and you can attach it to your key chain so you won’t loose it.  Also, if it’s on your keychain, you won’t be tempted to “shoot and drive” at the same time.  But still don’t text and drive, that’s just not safe grandma.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Take it out of the box.
  2. It has a rechargeable battery, so you’ll have to plug it in later.  The plug is in the box.  Don’t throw it away.
  3. Open the micro SD card I sent.  That’s the “digital film” and the camera won’t work without it.  Open the little door on the side of the camera and insert the card.  It has one of those little diagrams, like batteries, that will show you which way it goes.
  4. Turn on the camera.  The button is on the top.  It’s the little button, not the big one.
  5. Sure, you can go to the bathroom. No, the battery won’t die that quickly.
  6. photo dbl head amyThe viewfinder is a small TV on the back of the camera.  It’s small, so you might need your reading glasses.  Don’t put your eye up to it though.  It’s a TV and your eyes will go bad if you get too close.
  7. Go snap some photos!  Use the big button on top to take a photo.  You snap twice, it makes one picture!
  8. If you want to look at your photos, press the play button on the back.
  9. If you want prints made, you can call me and I’ll download them for you.  You can also take your digital film to a camera shop.  They can make prints for you.  See?  You don’t even need a computer.

I hope you like it!  Oh!  And guess what!?  I found a couple of those old photos!  That one of you and grandpa makes you look like you’re a pirate with sofa peg-legs.  Wow, and the photo of Amy when she was a newborn?  Well that was an unfortunate double exposure.  It looks like aunt Gladys was pregnant with Amy’s head.  I can’t wait to see some photos taken with your new double exposure digi-cam.

Everyone is doing well here.  We love you and miss you!  I have to go now because I’m trying to get a part-time job with Photojojo and I have to write a cover letter.  I will come visit soon and we’ll go double exposure shooting.

                                                                                                       Love, Jody
