I’m a day behind on my blogging because I spent too much time yesterday being busy.  A good part of it was productive busy, but some of it just wasn’t.  It was self imposed busyness and stress.  I need to stop giving myself too much to do.  That’s following society’s pressures of productivity and progress as much as the consumerism and striving for ‘more’.  I need to stop, drop and prioritize.

Okay, here’s what everyone has been waiting to hear.  A desire to shop for something new.  My new (used) hot tub is not working right now.  I must have damaged something in moving it.  I’m still working to fix it.  I have to say, I really miss using it.  So how does this make me want to shop for something new?  Read on…

I sold my temperamental grill a couple of weeks ago.  After much research on grills, I found the one that’s right for me.  A Minden gas grill.  The problem with this grill is that it’s a recent model and they’re not on the used market yet.  My desire to buy this new stems from fighting with my old grill and not wanting to deal with the potential problems of buying a used grill.

The difference in my shopping habits now, after doing almost a year of the no retail shopping challenge, is that I look for value.  The best options for the money, not buying things I don’t need and doing my homework on not only big purchases, but all purchases.  The frustration of my hot tub, coupled with missing my grill that I used 4 or 5 times a week in the spring makes me want to just go buy the grill.  Researching a potential purchase, deciding what to buy, having the money for it, but then not being able to find it is not only frustrating, but time consuming.

On the flip side of this issue, if I did go out and buy it brand new, I would feel guilty about just buying it and paying retail prices.  I’m not saying I should feel this way, and I’m not sure why I do, although I think it has something to do with feeling like I’ve been wasteful with my money.  I’m not sure what grill I’ll end up with, but I’ll let you know.

Off to a good day, hopefully filled with good productivity and some downtime.  :)
