How did Project Warm Us start?

Project Warm Us - Lin and JodyProject Warm Us was started by Jody Wissing and Lin Woodson in 2011.

It started with a phone conversation that went something like this. . .  “Hey, I have a few coats I want to donate to the homeless.  Do you know a good place?”  Then it turned into, “How about if we both start collecting coats from everyone we know, see how many we can get and bring them down to Dallas in early November?”  Of course, we couldn’t stop there.  Then it was, “Let’s set a crazy goal of 5,723 coats and blankets!  (The 5,700 is the approximate homeless ‘point in time’ count in Dallas and 23 is the day we had this idea)  We can get businesses, churches and individuals to help us out.  We’ll blast it out on social media and tell everyone we can!”

In its first year, the goal of 5,723 was exceeded by collecting 6,766!!  Every year we try to collect as many warm items as we can.
