I haven’t had much time to blog, but I have run into many crazy situations and learned a lot over the past few days.  Here are a few random things. 7I’m reading the book 7: Mutiny Against Excess.  (a) I should have written a book about all of my challenges and experiences.  Shane Claibourne is my hero too.  I also think the world will someday be like a scene from the Book of Eli.  (b)  This book very much parallels with this challenge.  It’s a really good read.  It will mess you up, in a good way. space ship

I wonder what the aliens think of us?  We’re a pretty wasteful society.  I guess their thoughts about planet earth may depend on where they land their spaceship.  America?  Africa?  Mexico?  Finland? the-colony-tv-show

A post-apocalyptic world.  My kids have started watching a new show called The Colony.  Yes, I know, 2009 is not new, but it’s new to us. We only have Netflix.  The program follows some people who must survive in a simulated post-apocalyptic environment.  No, I didn’t make them watch it.  They started watching it and insisted I watch it with them.  It’s a good follow-up to MacGyver, Pawn Stars and Mythbusters.  They have to live off waste and old junk.

new shoesI need new shoes.  I use the word “need” loosely here.  My old ones have holes in them (hello big toe), the back is ripped out and my feet slide off the soles when I play racquetball.  These shoes got a lot of weird looks as I was trying on new shoes yesterday.  I cannot buy the shoes if they come in a box.  That rules out 99% of them.  If I choose not to take the box, they they’ll just throw it away.  At least if I take it, I can place it in a recycling bin. All that to say, I did not purchase a pair of shoes.  I just couldn’t find that one pair to replace these.  I want one pair that are a color I like, a style that is comfortable, preferably not a name brand that has sweat shops in China, a pair that doesn’t cost a lot and a pair that is not made by a company that copies TOMS.  I hate shopping.  What a beating. chick fil a bag only

Bag only, please.  Fast food places seem to all be good with accommodating my odd request of no packaging, just a 100% biodegradable bag.  Chick-Fil-A was great yesterday.  I was doing errands for work and was offered to go to a fast food place.  I still REALLY miss ketchup. compassion collage art

Disposable art.  I knew several years ago when I designed this, that one day it would need to come down.  This is a huge collage mural, a circle of compassion photos with a 10′ diameter.  I really struggle with any art being disposable.  In the marketing world, I realize that’s a must.  I guess Apple couldn’t have an iPad 1 on a billboard when there are 4 newer models now. tshirt plastic packaging

I didn’t have a choice.  I bought some plastic crap.  My kids texted me from school in panic.  “We need white cotton t-shirts for art.  Today.  It’s a major grade.”  Of course I got them shirts, after severely harassing them for making me do this on short notice.  I drove to Target. My only options were in plastic bags.  I could have spent a lot of time driving to stores and looking for these elsewhere, but I’m guessing that would have not yielded any different results.  I would have just been late(r) for work and have less gas in the car. I guess that’s all for today, or I suppose I should say the last 2 days.  Time is not on my side.  Maybe that should be my next challenge.  :)
