Getting rid of the Infiniti Sleigh was one of the most difficult things we’ve ever had to do.  Our 1997 QX4 served us well for 14 years.  We were about to get $1,200 for it, money that would go toward our new car. Considering the $7,128 price tag to get everything fixed on it, it was time.

Joe in the Infiniti SleighWe reluctantly pulled up to Carmax to sell it. My son Joe and I decided to sit in the car for a little while and reminisce about all of the great times we’ve had in that car. After a few minutes of us telling stories back and forth, Joe says, “I have a confession. I stuffed blue Playdoh in the outlet in the back seat.” Seriously?

Blue Play-Doh Car OutletI remember when that quit working years before.  I tried replacing the fuse, which looked to be in working condition.  Then I sent it to the Infiniti service place.  They can fix anything, but not this.  They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it either.

As I was processing what he had told me, my first thought it that it sounded like Spongebob telling Squidward that he used his clarinet to unclog his toilet. They were about to be killed by the Hash-slinging Slasher, or so they thought. Nothing to lose. I guess that’s the way Joe felt.

Another thought occurred to me. Poop in the plug outlet. When he was going through potty training, he tried to hide a small accident by stuffing a tiny ball of poop into a plug outlet in his room. All I remember is him sitting on the edge of his bed, shaking his head as I repeatedly asked him why he did this and what was he thinking, while I spent the next 30 minutes trying to clean it out without being electrocuted.

So, now you know what a Blue Playdoh Moment is.  It’s that moment that every parent has with their “spirited” child, you know the one, when you have that realization that this kid is going to be a challenge for the rest of his/her life.  Always.  Forever.  Regularly.  Until the end of time.

Well, at least I know now why the outlet quit working. Yes, I now have closure. Maybe someday Joe will find a good, MacGyver type use for Playdoh instead of destroying things with it.
